Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso proposed in-depth reform of the development aid mechanism to improve its effectiveness for the benefit of developing countries and to strengthen international cooperation, this Tuesday, in New York where The Forum on Monitoring Financing for Development 2024 is taking place.

‘It appears more than necessary that a profound reform of the global financial architecture be carried out to strengthen international cooperation for development and improve the effectiveness of developing countries in the implementation of the SDGs (Development Goals). sustainable)’, underlines the Burkina Faso Declaration read by the Minister Delegate in charge of Regional Cooperation, Stella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré.

‘It is imperative that the technical and financial partners adhere to the choice of instruments chosen by the countries,’ added Me Kaboré, who draws attention to the failure of previous approaches which led to record levels of debt for the recipient countries. help.

She noted that after nine years
of implementing the SDGs, the results are clearly mixed and that the changing trends in targets show that we are very far from achieving the various goals we have set for ourselves.

She also recalled that the multiplicity of shocks experienced by the world economy, particularly developed countries, hampers the optimal financing of the sustainable development program for 2030.

‘It is undeniable that the primary responsibility for achieving the SDGs lies with developing countries. However, donor countries have a crucial role to play. This role involves committing to the quantity of aid provided to developing countries, the accessibility of aid but also its quality. In other words, it is about strengthening the effectiveness of aid,’ she concluded.

The Sustainable Development Goals that emerge from the 2030 Agenda aim to reduce extreme poverty and inequalities and respond to the consequences of climate variations by 2030, notably through international cooperation.
