Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is raising awareness among newly accredited diplomats in Burkina Faso about respecting laws and regulations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, through the Directorate General of Legal and Consular Affairs, organized a welcome and information session on Thursday, October 30, 2025, for the benefit of diplomatic staff and international officials newly accredited to Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening of the proceedings was presided over by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Ambassador Hermann Yirigouin Toe. The information session aims to raise awareness among newly assigned diplomatic corps in Burkina Faso about the legal, institutional, and diplomatic environment of the country. Specifically, the organizers aim to provide partners with all information on the laws and regulations governing the diplomatic privileges and immunities of Burkina Faso, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Collective Convention of 1961 and 1963.
An institutional meeting which, according to the Secretary General, reflects the government’s desire to create and maintain a climate of trust and constructive cooperation with Burkina Faso’s partners, with a view to establishing a mutual understanding on the new diplomatic situation of the national authorities. ‘This meeting is a space for dialogue, mutual listening and constructive cooperation. Three essential ingredients for a modern, pragmatic diplomacy that respects sovereignties,’ stressed Ambassador Hermann Yirigouin Toe.
This initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is appreciated by diplomats serving in Burkina Faso. For the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Burkina Faso, Youssef Slaoui, this is a positive interaction that will allow newcomers to be informed about current developments and to have the same level of information as everyone else.
The four themes addressed during the meeting focused on the presentation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the effective implementation of diplomatic privileges and immunities in Burkina Faso, the presentation of labor legislation, and the issue of security for diplomatic personnel and premises, as well as consular posts, in the context of the fight against terrorism.
