Ouagadougou: As part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Burkina Faso Armed Forces, a cross-country race followed by an aerobics session was organized Thursday in Ouagadougou, to launch the anniversary activities and strengthen cohesion between all the bodies involved in the fight against terrorism.
According to Burkina Information Agency, 873 participants, including the Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana, the Minister in charge of the Environment Roger Barro, and the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Moussa Diallo, took part in the event to kick off the Burkinabe Army Day celebrations. The race began at Revolution Square, navigating through key city avenues before concluding back at Revolution Square, fostering a spirit of camaraderie among the participants.
The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, highlighted the event as a testament to the strong cohesion among the forces combating terrorism. He emphasized that this unity, along with the determination of all involved, is crucial to Burkina Faso’s efforts to counter terrorist threats. Sana also encouraged citizens to engage with the army and participate in celebrating 65 years of dedication to national defense.
Colonel-Major Koagdia, chairman of the 65th anniversary organizing committee, noted the unique aspect of this year’s celebration, marked by the cross-country race and planned aerobics session. He announced a volleyball tournament scheduled from November 28th to 30th at the Burkina Faso National Olympic Sports Center, which will include teams from various defense and security forces, further promoting unity.
The anniversary will be celebrated under the theme “National Armed Forces with the people in the progressive popular revolution for a sovereign defense of the territory,” with planned activities including sanitation projects and conferences across military regions, reinforcing the commitment to national sovereignty and defense.
