Burkina expresses its doubts about the sincerity of ECOWAS to contribute to the fight against terrorism

Ouagadougou: The Government of Burkina Faso has rejected the pessimistic observation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the security situation in the country and expressed ‘doubts’ on the supposed reiterated availability of this institution wanting to support him in the fight against terrorists, Tuesday in Ouagadougou.

Burkina Faso expressed “its persistent doubts about this always reaffirmed desire for the constant availability of the ECOWAS Commission ”to support the Burkinabè authorities in their efforts to bring peace and security””, in a press release consulted by the AIB.

On December 30, ECOWAS signed a declaration to express concern about the security situation in the Land of Upright Men and to be concerned about certain decisions that it considers ‘liberticidal’.

In response, the Burkinabè Government recalled that, on the contrary, terrorist groups are currently at bay and hunted from all sides by the fighting forces. He also explained that the requisitions of people to
which ECOWAS is concerned fall within the framework of laws regularly adopted by the representatives of the people.

The government of Burkina Faso also underlined at ECOWAS its silence on the major issues in the fight against terrorism in West Africa, in particular on the massacres and assassinations organized against the populations of the community area, on the ransoms paid to terrorists, which strengthens them , as well as on the facilitations granted to terrorists by third countries.

‘Instead of being interested in these valuable questions, ECOWAS prefers to invest in the search for solutions to incidental or non-existent problems,’ notes the Burkinabe government.

ECOWAS was created in 1975 to promote and defend the interests and development of West African countries. It has distinguished itself in recent years as an agency for promoting democracy and human rights, not hesitating to stifle some of its members with sanctions or to regularly issue threats.
