Ouagadougou: As part of the global coalition to evaluate the impact of Covid-19, the national evaluation commission organized on Friday a workshop to evaluate the national plan to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in order to learn lessons to face future crises.

‘The interest of this evaluation is to draw all the lessons in terms of effectiveness, of the proposals that have been made but also in terms of the methods used which could guarantee, for future crises, better management,’ indicated the first vice-president of the national evaluation commission, Larba Issa Kobyagda, during the launching ceremony of the evaluation of the national plan to combat Covid-19 in Ouagadougou.

Mr. Kobyagda stressed that this evaluation is independent and is carried out by the national consultancy office Nazan, whose mission is to analyze the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency and viability of all the measures taken by the government to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘This office should be able to interact with a
ll stakeholders, in particular the executive secretariat and the 5 sub-committees who worked during the implementation of the response plan against Covid-19, as well as the populations who experienced this crisis ‘, he clarified.

Larba Issa Kobyagda also indicated that this assessment is part of the global coalition to assess the impact of Covid-19.

According to the representative of the World Bank’s global initial assessment within the coalition, Miché Ouédraogo, this global coalition aims to support countries to evaluate and learn from the measures put in place in order to take more effective measures for future crises.

‘By launching the global evaluation initiative, the World Bank aims to support countries in strengthening their evaluation capacities and to support governments in having conclusive data for decision-making in management and the implementation of public policies,’ he added.

Larba Issa Kobyagda stressed that from what will be considered as limits at the end of the assessment, it will be u
p to the government to take measures to guarantee a more effective response system to future crises.

According to Mr. Kobyagda, Burkina Faso recorded 22,453 cases of Covid-19 with 396 deaths between March 9, 2020 and April 30, 2023.
