The health districts of Boulsa and Tougouri began this Friday, July 14, 2023, the vaccination campaign against strain 2 of poliomyelitis.

Started this Friday, July 14, 2023 in Namentenga, round 2 of this vaccination campaign against strain 2 (OPV2) of poliomyelitis will end on July 17, 2023 as well as at the national level.

According to the person in charge of prevention by vaccination Rasmani Zagré, 49,797 children (2019 census), aged 0 to 59 months are concerned by this campaign.

As a prelude to the campaign, awareness-raising, advocacy and counting activities were carried out in each of the districts. The door-to-door strategy has been adopted.

The vaccines were predisposed in the functional health centers in view of the difficult security context. Community-based health workers (ASBC) active in the field seek out the target public in their health area.

As a reminder, during Round 1 of the vaccination campaign which took place in November 2022, the district of Boulsa achieved 116% vaccination coverage representing 58,083 children vaccinated out of 49,797 expected.

According to Nazé Mahamdi in charge of awareness activities, strains 1 and 3 of poliomyelitis (OPV1 and 3) were defeated during this campaign. Only OPV2, the most dangerous, still develops resistance. This is why this round 2 response campaign is organized, he said.

The High Commissioner and President of the district health council of the province Adama Conseiga, for his part, thanked all the health development partners, encouraged the actors on the ground and wished the campaign every success in the province.
