The services of the Western regional customs directorate, and the Hauts-Bassins regional environmental directorate, incinerated
on Thursday, drugs, adulterated drinks and unregistered herbicides worth more than 10 billion FCFA.
In addition to their main mission, that of mobilizing revenue, customs services are also responsible for protecting the national economy and ensuring consumer health. It is in this dynamic of protecting the economy and consumer health that the control, surveillance and anti-fraud services of the Western Regional Customs Directorate (DRO) seized products prohibited, unfit for consumption, and prohibited for importation into Burkina Faso. These include 86,000 kilograms (kg) of Indian hemp, 105 kg of marijuana, 4,000 kg of amphetamines, 520 kg of herbicide, and adulterated drinks weighing 5,000 kg.
To this customs seizure, according to the Western regional director of customs, is added 100 kg of Indian hemp seized by the services of the Hauts-Bassins regional environmental directorate.
All of these seizures are worth more than 10 billion CFA francs. This is the result of five years of seizure, according to the confidences of the Western regional director, Sansan Jean François d’Assise Kambou, who was presented and cremated this Thursday, April 25, 2024 in the presence of the governor of the Hauts region. -Bassins, Mariam Konaté, and the Director General of Customs, Adama Ilboudo. According to Sansan Jean François d’Assise Kambou, the Hauts-Bassins region is a “hub” for trafficking of “all kinds”.
As proof, Mr. Kambou recalled the first seizure of cocaine worth more than 7 billion CFA francs in Bobo-Dioulasso in 2022 in West Africa. These feats of ‘long’ struggle of the Hauts-Bassins customs were praised by the director general. ‘When we say customs, people tend to appreciate us only on revenue mobilization, while we have other no less important missions such as protecting the economy and society.
