Baz¨ga: The Forces vives and traditional practitioners of the province of Baz¨ga planted 595 medicinal species in the provincial grove on the occasion of the national tree day celebrated on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Zams© in the commune of Kombissiri.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Forces vives, traditional practitioners, and local populations, under the guidance of the provincial directorate of water and forests of Baz¨ga, undertook the planting of 595 plants comprising various medicinal species. This initiative is part of the National Tree Day (JNA) 2025 edition, themed “Medicinal plants: sources of health and climate resilience for communities.”

High Commissioner of the province of Baz¨ga, T©n© Justine Kient©ga/Ilboudo, emphasized that this day aims to foster general mobilization among all socio-professional groups within the province to restore forests and degraded lands. She noted that this effort aligns with a national initiative prompted by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, to establish medicinal plant groves across each province of Burkina Faso.

The reforestation effort, supported by technical assistance from water and forestry agents led by provincial director Sanata Domo, involved planting local species such as n©r©, baobab, tamarind tree, wild date palm, gum arabic, and wild plum tree. These were planted over an area of one hectare, safeguarded by a wire mesh fence.

Bernard Bingo, Technical Inspector of Services at the Ministry of the Environment and sponsor of the activity, described the reforestation day as a patriotic act and a commitment by Baz¨ga’s active forces and residents to support the President of Faso’s initiative to promote medicinal plants.

Additionally, Lacina Yao, an Advisor to the Presidency of Faso, called upon the local population to assist provincial authorities in nurturing the plants to ensure the grove’s success. The people of Zams©, the primary beneficiaries of the medicinal grove, expressed gratitude through their village chief, pledging to protect the planted species.
