Banwa Targets Over 117,000 Children for Schistosomiasis Treatment


Banwa: Provincial directors and heads of services, customary and religious leaders took part in a plea on the mass treatment campaign against schistosomiasis, on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Solenzo health district. The High Commissioner of Banwa Province, Sanfi©nal© Joseph Sirima, chaired the advocacy on the mass treatment campaign for schistosomiasis, which will cover the period from May 5 to 10 throughout the province.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the head doctor of the Solenzo health district, Yelkouni Kouka, announced that 117,496 children aged 5 to 14 will be treated. In addition to schistosomiasis treatment, these children will also benefit from dewormers.



The strategy to ensure the success of this campaign includes deploying teams in schools, markets, train stations, and health facilities to reach all targeted children. Questions of clarification were addressed, and the High Commissioner appealed to all participants to ensure that this campaign is a success in Banwa province.
