At least 170 people killed in Yatenga: justice launches call for testimony

‘PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PROSECUTOR OF FASO, AT THE HIGH COURT OF OUAHIGOUYA

On Sunday February 25, 2024, my Prosecutor’s Office was informed that massive murderous attacks had allegedly been committed in the villages of Komsilga, Nodin and Soro, all in the Thiou department, Yatenga province, Northern region.

The same sources indicated that the overall provisional toll stood at approximately one hundred and seventy (170) people executed, in addition to the injured people and various other related material damage.

Monday February 26, 2024, the day after the events.

The administrative authorities in charge of the aforementioned territorial districts brought the same facts to the attention of some of our services.

Given the seriousness and consistency of all these denunciations and information, my Prosecutor’s Office instructed its Judicial Police services to open an investigation in order to elucidat
e these facts.

Likewise, on Thursday February 29, 2024 with the assistance of an escort led by the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), a team from my Prosecutor’s Office and my judicial police investigation services carried out a judicial transport in the different villages concerned in order to make all the findings and collect all the available evidence.

At this moment when the investigation is launched, I appeal to all people who have elements or information on these facts to communicate them both directly to my Prosecutor’s Office and to the various

Judicial Police services within my jurisdiction.

I would like, in these times of trial for the nation in general, and for the victims and their loved ones in particular, to express all my compassion and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
