This meeting, which comes on the sidelines of the 13th Salon du Cheval (horse show) held in El Jadida, is part of HM the King’s vision, which advocates South-South cooperation, said a statement issued by the Ministry.
According to the same source, the discussions focused on the importance of livestock and issues related to the animal resources sector, as well as on the axes and prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in these areas.
Under the chairmanship of the two ministers, the Société Royale d’Encouragement du Cheval (SOREC) and the Senegalese Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production signed a partnership agreement.
This partnership aims to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions in the areas of knowledge transfer, genetic improvement and technical support. These are essential areas for the emergence of sustainable, efficient and value-added African equine sectors.
Signed by SOREC Director General Omar Skalli and Equine Development Director Alphonse Sene, this agreement is part of the global approach to multi-sectoral and agricultural cooperation initiated by the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, said the same source.
The statement further specifies that it illustrates the two countries’ shared ambition to establish a structuring cooperation framework in the field of the equine sector, in order to position the horse as an economic and job creation lever.
The development of breeding, through the production of quality horses and the improvement of equine breeds, is a strategic issue for Morocco and Senegal.
This protocol defines the areas of cooperation, as well as the conditions and modalities that will govern the partnership between SOREC and the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production of Senegal.
The two institutions undertake to strengthen and develop their cooperation through training, genetic improvement and technical support, the statement said, stressing that SOREC will support the Senegalese equine sector in all technical aspects of breeding, horse racing and equestrian sports.
