This operation, which also involved two American and Tunisian units, is part of the combined “African Lion 2022” exercise, held under the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the FAR.

It aims to assess the operational and tactical capabilities of the NRBC Company of the USS-FAR in terms of reactivity, deployment, rapid redeployment, reconnaissance, and detection capability as well as the ability to decontaminate large numbers of people infected.

According to Lieutenant Mehdi Techbibi, commander of the USS FAR EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Company, the unit conducted a preliminary reconnaissance using robots and sophisticated equipment to locate the improvised explosive device safely and accurately.

Then, the EOD specialized technician intervened to neutralize the device, before proceeding with the decontamination of responders and victims.

“African Lion 2022” is a combined joint exercise held each year by the FAR and the U.S. Armed Forces. This year’s edition (June 20-30) sees the participation of 10 African and international countries, including Morocco and the United States, as well as some 20 military observers from partner countries. The exercise is taking place in the regions of Agadir, Benguerir, Kenitra, Mahbes, Taroudant and Tantan.
