Presenting the statement of Morocco, as part of the general debate, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, who was speaking via video conference, reviewed the notable achievements in the health sector, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, particularly in the context of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ait Taleb noted, in this sense, that Morocco, guided by the farsighted vision of HM King, and driven by the desire to make its contribution to equitable and secure access to vaccines to the populations of the African continent, has launched the construction works of a manufacturing plant of anti-Covid-19 and other vaccines.

This project, which makes the Kingdom of Morocco a biotechnology hub in Africa, will allow a rapid response to health emergencies, thus meeting the priority strategies of the Triple Billion Program of the WHO, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030, added the Minister.

Moreover, among the lessons learned from this crisis, the generalization of Universal Health Coverage and the strengthening of multisectoral coordination for the preparation of health emergencies, remain the pillars of actions to be undertaken to overcome the challenges of health shocks, he stressed.

Thus, the Minister noted that under the leadership of HM the King, the national large-scale project of social protection has received a strong impetus and rigorous requirements for its implementation, ranging from the generalization of health insurance to the expansion of membership in the pension scheme. This reform fits perfectly with the vision of the Health for Peace initiative to contribute to resilience and build trust at the community level, he noted.

Ait Taleb stressed, in this regard, that the success of this social protection project has prompted the Department of Health to review its sectoral strategy according to a new approach, based on an overhaul of our health system, initiated to build a strong and resilient system capable of dealing with future health crises and ensure better health for peace.
