Ouagadougou: The Minister of Infrastructure and Access to Landlocked Areas, Adama Luc Sorgho, conducted an inspection tour of key road construction sites in the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou. The visit aimed to evaluate the progress of work on several strategic projects, including the RN4, the North Ring Road, the bypass, and roads serving the defense and security forces.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the first stop on the inspection tour was National Road No. 4 (RN4), where a widening project is underway over a stretch of 22.3 km. This project also involves modernizing access to Thomas Sankara University, developing secondary roads, constructing an overpass, pedestrian bridges, and installing sanitation infrastructure. Despite challenges posed by the presence of ONEA pipelines, the execution rate has reached 61%, which Minister Sorgho deemed satisfactory.
The ministerial team also visited Kossodo to inspect the Northern Ring Road construction site. The work is 82% complete, but the road surface remains unfinished due to the pending availability of a specific imported bitumen. Minister Sorgho emphasized the need to open the road to traffic rapidly, even temporarily, to alleviate city congestion.
On the 125-km bypass, work is nearly finished, with only two kilometers left to be paved. However, there are ongoing concerns regarding the situation of people affected by the project. The minister called for prompt attention to these populations to ensure social justice.
The tour concluded at the roads developed for the security forces, particularly around the Bila Zagr© camp. The minister commended the efforts made and stressed the importance of quality finishes, public lighting, and security in sensitive areas. He highlighted the strategic importance of these infrastructures for the mobility and security of forces in the current context.
Minister Sorgho reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering sustainable structures that adhere to technical standards and urged construction companies to continue their work following best practices.
