Sorgho-Yarc© Village Opens New Health Center to Improve Access to Primary Care


Bam: The village of Sorgho-Yarc© has a primary health center worth 65 million FCFA: The Secretary General of the Bam province, Moussa Sanou, inaugurated an equipped community health post in the village of Sorgho-Yarc©, located in the commune of Kongoussi. The facility aims to make primary health care accessible to the local population and was developed at a cost of 65 million CFA francs.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the newly opened Sorgho-Yarc© Community Health Post (PSC) consists of a building with two treatment blocks, an observation room, a generic essential medicine depot, and a discussion hall. The health center also features solar electrification and a simplified drinking water supply system.



The project, funded as part of the Save Life Project by the NGO Pathfinder International, highlights the commitment to improving healthcare accessibility. Dr. Sandrine Konseibo, Pathfinder International Project Manager, emphasized the significance of the PSC as a fulfillment of the NGO’s promise to provide more accessible and equitable healthcare for the community. She noted that the health center addresses a critical need for rural populations and aligns with the national community health strategy for 2024-2028.



Dr. Arzouma Idrissa Ou©draogo, Chief Medical Officer of the Kongoussi Health District, described the health post as a substantial step towards achieving universal health coverage. He urged the Sorgho-Yarc© population to maintain the center’s sustainability through regular use and upkeep.



Etienne Sawadogo, the first vice-president of the Kongoussi special delegation, conveyed the municipality’s gratitude to the partners on behalf of the beneficiaries. He mentioned that the health post would particularly benefit internally displaced persons.



Moussa Sanou, representing the Bam Province High Commissioner, highlighted the construction of the post as a realization of one of the major objectives of the Burkinabe government, which is to enhance healthcare accessibility and strengthen health coverage in the fight against disease. He encouraged the local management body and health personnel to actively manage the infrastructure to keep it functional, clean, and convenient.
