Mali’s Vital Forces Recommend General Gota for Presidency in National Conference

Bamako: Mali’s vital forces have recommended the installation of General Assimi Gota as President of the Republic for a renewable five-year term, following national consultations that concluded on Tuesday. The consultations also called for the dissolution of all political parties in the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, these recommendations emerged from the national consultations focused on reviewing the political parties’ charter. Participants called for General Gota to assume the presidency starting in 2025, for a term of five years. The recommendations emphasized the need to grant current leaders the necessary time to continue governing the state effectively.

The consultations also advised maintaining the existing transitional bodies until peace is restored in the country and proposed suspending all electoral activities. Regarding political parties, the recommendations included dissolving existing parties and tightening conditions for the creation of new ones.

Djibril Tour©, a local elected official from the Kita region, expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes, describing the process as a democratic exercise. He highlighted the public’s disappointment with politicians as justification for the proposed measures.

The final report from the conference is slated for submission to the transitional president, General Gota, in the coming weeks. This consultation forms part of a broader reform package aligned with the Constitution of July 22, 2023, and is based on recommendations from the National Refoundation Conference (ANR).
