Ganzourgou: The Zorgho Basic Education District (CEB) concluded its sports and cultural activities for the 2024-2025 school year with a football final held on April 30, 2025, at the city’s multi-sports stadium. The ceremony took place in a festive atmosphere, in front of an enthusiastic audience of students, teachers, parents, administrative, customary, and religious officials, under the chairmanship of the President of the Special Municipal Delegation, Mr. Valentin Badolo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Zorgho multi-sport stadium hosted the official closing ceremony for CEB Zorgho’s sports and cultural activities on Wednesday evening, April 30. The evening featured parades, speeches, entertainment, a football match, and recognitions. This year’s sponsorship honors went to Alix V©bamba, principal of Zorgho Sector 4 School, who served as patron of the ceremony, and to Mr. Augustin Sakand©, Song-Kogl Naba of Daguinto¨ga, who was unable to attend.
Following the parade of the CEB’s four educational support zones, the football final kicked off. The Digr© school team faced the team from the Ibn Kame Franco-Arab School of Zorgho. Despite repeated attacks from both sides, neither team was able to find the net during regulation time. It was ultimately in the penalty shootout that the Digr© school won by 7 successful shots against 6, thus taking home the season’s trophy.
The victorious team was rewarded with a ball, a set of jerseys, an envelope of 35,000 FCFA, and the trophy. Its unfortunate opponent, the Franco-Arab school team, left with a ball, a set of jerseys, and the sum of 25,000 FCFA. The Sapaga “A” and Zempassogo schools, ranked joint third, were also rewarded with a ball, a set of jerseys, and 20,000 FCFA each.
The sponsor, Ms. V©bamba, expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her and praised the resilience of the education system’s stakeholders, who made this activity possible despite the security challenges. She expressed her encouragement to the finalist teams and congratulated all the participating schools.
The president of the Special Delegation, Mr. Valentin Badolo, also paid a glowing tribute to the District Chief, Mr. Raogo Jean Claude Ou©draogo, and to all the stakeholders involved, for the quality of the organization and their constant commitment to education.
According to the Secretary General of the Organization of Sport, Culture and Leisure in Primary Schools (OSCLEP), Mr. Rasman© Zoungrana, 96% of schools participated in sports activities compared to less than 20% for culture, due, according to him, to the lack of resources, insufficient organization, and the low commitment of parents in the cultural education of children. While counting on meeting the challenges of the next editions, he thanked the CCEB, school principals, teachers, students, as well as the goodwill that made the season run smoothly.
The District Chief took the opportunity to present certificates of appreciation to several people who supported the organization. True to the tradition of joking kinship between Zorgho and Koup©la, the godmother from Koup©la received as a gift, in addition to the certificate, a calabash of dried toads and two live toads, symbols of Zorgho’s oxen according to local humor.
The CEB of Zorgho brings together 74 primary schools and 6 Early Learning and Preschool Education Centers (CEEP). It has a total of 18,028 primary school students and 521 preschool students. A date is set for the 2025-2026 season with the hope of doing even better.
