Ouagadougou: The Association for Religious Tolerance and Intercommunity Dialogue (ATR/DI) launched this Saturday morning in Ouagadougou the ‘education project for citizenship and social cohesion among stakeholders traditional, customary and religious in the thirteen regions of Burkina Faso.
‘The traditional, the customary and the religious already work daily on the concepts of citizenship, good citizenship, living together, and social cohesion,’ said this Saturday the president of the Association for Religious Tolerance and Intercommunity Dialogue ( ATR/DI) Issaka Sourwema.
He nevertheless clarified that ‘all knowledge has limits, we will contribute through the project to add to their knowledge what modern sciences and techniques have in terms of understanding these concepts’.
The implementation of the project will also make it possible to ‘imagine a successful synthesis of conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms in traditional religions, among Christians and Muslims to obtain alternative mechanisms,
‘ underlined Issaka Sourwema.
The ‘education for citizenship and social cohesion project within traditional, customary and religious actors in the thirteen regions of Burkina Faso’ is a sub-component of the ‘Civic Space’ project which is implemented by a consortium of organizations from the civil society led by the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).
After the launch this Saturday, the ATR/DI plans the start of the implementation of the project for next week from August 1 to 8 in Bobo-Dioulasso (economic capital) by the organization of two activities, informed the president of ATR/DI.
He indicated that the first activity will be a training session on civics, citizenship, animation and advocacy techniques for the benefit of 30 members of the association from the 13 regions of the country, in order to equip them for the implementation successful implementation of the project.
The second activity will be strengthening the capacities of pupils, students and interns at Nazi Boni University in
the fight against violent extremism and promoting social cohesion, he said.
