Ouagadougou: Under the sponsorship of the umbrella organization of the Burkina Faso, the Burkinabè Internal Security Forces planted more than 300 trees on Saturday on the site of the Sourgoubila prison production center, in the province of Kourwéogo.
On the occasion of the 10th edition of the Internal Security Forces’ reforestation day, more than 300 plants providing non-timber forest products were planted by paramilitary forces at the Sourgoubila prison production center.
According to the Minister in charge of Justice, Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, this reforestation organized by the Internal Security Forces is ‘a symbol of cohesion and fraternity between personnel and the Defense and Security Forces’.
He also took the opportunity to thank all the partners who supported the organization of this reforestation day before providing the reasons for the opening of the prison production site.
According to the minister, the State no longer wants to keep able-bodied workers in charge of society.
This is why, he conti
nued, this production center, which aims to be an open-air prison, was initiated so that people in conflict with the law participate themselves in their own care but also to achieving food self-sufficiency.
The reforestation day was co-sponsored by the general director of the umbrella organization of credit unions of Burkina, Azaratou Sondo/Nignan, represented by her deputy, Aryeonne Innocent Somé.
According to Mr. Somé, the network of credit unions did not hesitate to support this activity, because it is in line with its mission, which is to improve the living conditions of its members and of all populations in general.
For him, as climate change affects the living conditions of populations, its structure cannot remain on the sidelines of this initiative to restore the plant cover.
