Ouagadougou: The President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, acting on behalf of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore, led a tribute ceremony at the National Heroes Monument in Ouaga 2000. The event honored the martyrs of Burkina Faso’s 2014 popular uprising and the failed coup of September 2015 by laying a wreath of flowers in their memory.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was attended by key government figures, including the Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Emile Zerbo, alongside other prominent individuals and families of the victims. The African diaspora, represented by the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI), also participated, with attendees traveling from the United States and several other countries.
At 10:00 AM, participants observed a minute of silence to pay their respects to those who sacrificed their lives for Burkina Faso’s freedom and dignity. The solemn act was followed by Dr. Ousmane Bougouma laying a wreath at the monument, symbolizing national recognition and remembrance.
Victims of the 2014 uprising and the 2015 coup expressed their appreciation for the tribute but highlighted ongoing grievances. They called on authorities to address issues related to victim care and compensation for some individuals affected by the historical events.
