The Army’s Anniversary Marked by Cohesion and Commitment to Sovereignty

Tenkodogo: The Defense and Security Forces (FDS) of the Nakambe region launched on Thursday in Tenkodogo the commemorative activities of the 65th anniversary of the Burkinabe army, under the theme: “National armed forces engaged with the people in the progressive popular revolution for a sovereign defense of the territory”. This celebration is an opportunity to pay tribute to our predecessors who fell on the field of honour and to strengthen cohesion between the various bodies engaged in the fight for the stability and security of the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the festivities began with a fun run and an aerobics session that brought together the National Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, police, gendarmerie, forestry service, customs, prison guards, Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and civilians. In a spirit of camaraderie, these various groups demonstrated their unity and their determination to serve the Nation with honor.

On November 1, 2025, the military parade will be held in Fada, in the Goulmou, at the parade ground of the 6th military region. Following these sporting activities, the participants went to the Tenkodogo municipal cemetery for a cleanup operation and a moment of reflection in memory of the soldiers and citizens who fell for their country.

The Commander of the 61st Commando Infantry Regiment (RIC) recalled that this initiative aims to honor the memory of national heroes: “Through this symbolic act, we want to show our appreciation to all those who gave their lives for Burkina Faso and strengthen the bond between the army and the people,” he said.

The Regional Director of the National Police, Commissioner Fran§ois Ouedraogo, praised the excellent collaboration between the various security forces and the local population: “Yesterday we were together for the popular cross-country race, and today we came to weed the municipal cemetery to pay tribute to our predecessors. This illustrates the cohesion and solidarity between all components of the Nation,” he stated.

For the Commander of the 61st RIC, collaboration between the army and the local population is a key pillar in the fight against terrorism. He expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Nakambe for their unwavering support and trust in the security forces. “We thank the people for their unwavering support. They should know that we are committed, professional, and that we are working every day to correct the shortcomings in order to better protect the country,” he added.

The commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the National Armed Forces in Tenkodogo was a moment of fraternity, reflection, and renewed commitment. It highlighted the spirit of sacrifice and resilience of the men and women in uniform, determined to preserve peace and national sovereignty. Through this celebration, the National Armed Forces reaffirm their connection to the people, convinced that it is together – civilians and military – that Burkina Faso will triumph over security challenges and build a future of stability and prosperity.
