Following the IXOPAY and TokenEx merger, new leadership strengthens the company’s market position and serves the evolving needs of customers.

TULSA, Okla., June 03, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, IXOPAY, announced the appointment of industry veteran Brady Harris as its new CEO. His appointment aligns with the recent merger of IXOPAY and TokenEx, highlighting a significant shift in the payments industry towards a multi-processor payment model, which empowers merchants and fintech companies to improve and diversify their payment strategies. The company thanks departing CEO Marc Olesen for his direction and contributions.

Harris, rated a Top 3 nationwide CEO on Glassdoor, brings over 20 years of experience and executive leadership in FinTech, Payments, and SaaS. As CEO of Dwolla, he oversaw the rapid growth of annual payment volumes from $10 billion to $70 billion, while adding 1.5 million new users monthly. Prior to Dwolla, as the President of Payscape, he was instrumental in its merger with Payroc, creating a global full-service payment provider with over 1,000 employees across 13 offices worldwide; the combined entity operating in 46 countries, serving 150,000 businesses.

His expertise in mergers, acquisitions, and scaling companies to successful exits under private equity sponsors is key as IXOPAY positions itself to become the one-stop solution in the payment industry. The merger has created a platform capable of offering omnichannel tokenization, payment orchestration, and card lifecycle management. Participants in the Environmental and Social Risk Management training course have been advised to be agents of change and use the knowledge acquired in the implementation of project management.

The participants were urged to use their experiences to better manage environmental and social issues in their respective district assemblies to ensure value for money and effective service delivery.

Professor Helen Essandoh, Director of Regional Transport Research and Education Centre (TRECK), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), gave advice in Accra at the end of a six-day training course on the topic ‘Essentials of Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM).

The training course, which is the fifth in a series, brought together 15 environmental officials from Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to build their capacities in managing environmental and social risk issues.

The aim of the programme was to increase the capacity of environmental experts to manage inf
rastructure projects in the country and within sub-Saharan Africa.

The course was jointly organised by TRECK-KNUST and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in collaboration with the World Bank Group.

Prof Essandoh encouraged the participants to build upon their strong networks and share ideas to improve on issues relating to environmental and social risk management.

She said the course, since its inception in November 2022, had built the capacity of 150 participants from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Uganda, and Nigeria.

Professor Essandoh expressed optimism that the course, which was the fifth in the series, would help participants gain insights about prioritising environmental issues before implementing development projects.

She commended the participants for actively participating in the course, urging them to apply their new skills in mainstreaming environmental and social risk issues in executing developmental projects.

In a speech read on his behalf, Dr August
ina Akonnor, Deputy Rector of GIMPA, urged the participants to utilise the knowledge gained in the ESRM course to enhance their endeavours.

Dr Akonnor encouraged participants and facilitators to maintain the connections established during the training.

She urged the participants to include capacity-building initiatives in their action plans and maintain the professional networks established during the training.

Mr Isaac Donwaazum Mwangu, on behalf of the participants, thanked the facilitators and organisers for imparting valuable knowledge to them.

‘The course has been very impactful and will effectively help me to manage, supervise, and monitor projects in my district for positive outcomes,’ he said.

Mr Mwangu, who is the Regional Economic Planning Officer for the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, appealed to authorities to institutionalise EMSR in MMDAs project management, designs, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation plans.

The participants were presented with certificates.

They
were taken through topics like the regulatory and institutional framework for ESRM, environmental and social impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, land acquisition and involuntary resettlement, and labour and occupational health and safety in development projects.

More than 120 women trained in skills development

The Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG Ghana), with support from the Coca-Cola Foundation, has concluded the first phase of a comprehensive skills training program in the Greater Accra Region, training over 120 women in skills development.

The initiative aims to empower marginalised women by providing them with essential vocational and business management skills to enhance their economic opportunities.

The training, which was part of the ‘Economic Inclusion of Marginalised Women Living in Urban Centers’ project, provided 120 women with hands-on experience in mushroom farming, soap making, and snail rearing.

The program exceeded its initial target of 100 beneficiaries and underscored the commitment of NEWIG Ghana and the Coca-Cola Foundation to promoting economic resilience among Ghanaian women.

The trainees received certificates of participation and business start-up kits to begin their businesses.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the trainees at the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Madam Mawulawoe Awit
y, Executive Director of NEWIG Ghana, said they were dedicated to economically empowering women through skills development.

She said the Network had targeted regions such as Greater Accra, Western, Northern, and Ashanti Regions to provide essential training to equip women with vocational skills and offer them business management and financial literacy education to help manage their enterprises.

‘We have collaborated with organisations such as SSNIT and Absa Bank to educate women on the importance of saving, especially for retirement, and to provide insights into available resources,’ she added.

Madam Mawusi Nudekor, Director of Ghana TVET Service, said the TVET Service was initiating steps to standardise the curricula and certification in vocational training to ensure that trainees could gain formal employment opportunities.

The Director said empowering women through TVET was seen as particularly crucial, as it directly benefitted them, their families, and communities, contributing to economic strength an
d poverty reduction.

She said the TVET Commission was responsible for curriculum development, while the TVET Service ensured implementation across pre-tertiary levels in public, private, non-governmental, and informal sectors.

She said currently, many training initiatives in the informal sector utilised non-standardised curricula, leading to participants receiving certificates of participation rather than recognised qualifications.

The Director said capacity building efforts would precede these assessments to ensure consistency and quality across the country.

Mr Albert Boakye Okyere, Municipal Chief Executive of the Assembly, emphasised the need for support for women, particularly the unemployed, in areas of skills training.

‘I commend the Coca-Cola Foundation for its support in empowering marginalised women through this project,’ he added.

He said there was the need to build on this and support initiatives that promoted economic empowerment and inclusivity for all.

Ms Mary Oforiwaa, a beneficiary from
Ashaiman, expressed her gratitude to the organisers for providing the opportunity for women to receive training in various handicrafts with support from the Coca-Cola Foundation.

‘I chose to learn how to farm snails, and after the training, I realised that I had acquired a valuable skill. Moreover, I received initial capital to start my own business, which made me very happy to be part of NEWIG Ghana,’ she added.

Government must remove hurdles from business investments – Ghanaian Investor

Do not put hurdles in the way of people who genuinely want to invest in Ghana, especially in the agricultural sector,’ Reverend Nicholas Broni, a Ghanaian palm investor in Rwanda, has appealed to the government.

Rev. Broni, the Founder and Leader of LETAD Agro Rwanda Limited, speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the bureaucracy in doing business in Ghana was too much, and the trend of needing someone to introduce businesses to people in authority was not helping the country.

He said, unlike Ghana, there was no bureaucracy in meeting ministers and stakeholders to facilitate investing in sectors of their economy.

Recalling how his company went to invest in Rwanda, he said LETAD was the one that introduced palm plantations to Rwanda, stating that as a freight forwarder by profession, he attended the Global Conference in 2019 where he noticed that there were palm plants doted almost everywhere, and his enquiries revealed that they were using them as ornamental plants.

He added that,
to his surprise, he found out that the people of Rwanda relied on Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo for their palm oil supply, which they use for their delicacy ‘Nsombe, which is made from cassava leaves.

The LETAD Founder added that after returning to Ghana, he contacted some of the people he networked with during the conference on the possibility of investing in palm trees in the country, indicating that a return visit to other provinces convinced him and his partners that palm was available in all the provinces of Rwanda.

‘Even at the premises of their agricultural ministry, palm trees are available. They agreed to try it, so we registered with the company and had a demonstration farm. We are planting palm trees to get raw materials for processing palm oil and other by-products.

He said Ghana must fully utilise its palm trees to benefit all those on the food chain, including the farmers and processors, stating that ‘we need to organise our palm resources so well that it will benefit every
stakeholder on the value chain.’

Rev. Broni added that Ghana could maximise its agricultural products to cater for the needs of the people, stating that, for instance, Rwanda did not import its staples, which are meanly beans and Irish potatoes.

He added that they produced enough vegetables to meet their consumption needs and their meat products, which ensured that all stakeholders in the supply chain could get their fair share.

Kotoka International Airport to use e-Gates with Ghana Card soon – Dr Bawumia

The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says Ghana’s premier international airport, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), will begin the use of eGates before the end of this year for check-in.

Dr Bawumia said this during a meeting with some religious leaders in Cape Coast in the Central Region on Monday.

‘In fact, before the end of this year, if you arrive in Ghana at Kotoka International Airport you don’t have to go to an immigration officer.

‘We are putting together the eGate, just put in your Ghana card and it will open for you.

‘The eGate will come into work in Ghana before the end of the year,’ Dr Bawumia assured.

An electronic gate automatically processes passengers through passport control.

It uses facial recognition technology and e-passport to check one’s identity. It’s quick and secure.

One can use the eGates if he or she is 14 years or more and have an e-passport from an eligible country.

Vice President Bawumia has been meeting stakeholders
across the country to solicit their input into the NPP 2024 Election Manifesto.

Dr Bawumia has been reiterating his plans to implement a flat tax rate in 2025 after granting tax amnesty to every individual in the country, stressing that the country’s gold reserves could be used to stabilise the Cedi.

He said his government would resource the Geological Survey Authority and technical universities to undertake exploration of the seven gold belts in the country to ensure that the gold concessions produced positive outcomes.

He repeated his plans to establish a Minerals Development Bank to support small-scale miners to source funding for their businesses, noting that the sector could generate three billion dollars annually.

On improving fiscal discipline, the NPP Flagbearer assured that his administration would make sure the Fiscal Responsibility Council operated independently with oversight over the Ministry of Finance.

He promised to downsize his government’s expenditure by three percent of the Gross Domes
tic Product (GDP), which amounted to about GHc30 billion every year.

Three charged with invading pitch during Champions League final

Three people have been charged with invading the pitch during the Champions League final at Wembley on Saturday, London’s Metropolitan Police said.

Yevhenii Lubnenko, 29, David Carneckij, 28, and a 16-year-old boy, are accused of going on to the playing area at a football match, contrary to Section 4 of the Football (Offences) Act 1991.

Lubnenko, of no fixed address, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, while Carneckij, of Walworth Road, south-east London, is due to appear at the same court on July 10.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on June 24.

The force said inquiries continue into two other people, arrested in connection with the same incident.

In total, police made 56 arrests around the Champions League final, between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid – most of which were for attempts to breach security.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said on Saturday that the force was confident the ‘overwhelming majority’ of att
empts to unlawfully gain access to the stadium were unsuccessful, adding that there was a ‘robust’ policing operation in place to support Wembley stewards and stadium staff.

The Football Association invested £5 million ($6.4 million) in improving safety, security and infrastructure at Wembley in the wake of the trouble at the Euro 2020 final, when ticketless fans stormed gates to gain access to the stadium.

Stadium bosses had announced their commitment to clamp down on ‘poor fan behaviour’ ahead of Saturday’s match.

In a statement on its website before the match, a stadium spokesperson said: ‘Wembley Stadium has echoed its commitment to clamp down on poor fan behaviour as it prepares to host a record-breaking eighth Uefa Champions League Final on Saturday June 1.

‘Wembley Stadium has implemented several enhancements to its security and safety operations at recent events.

‘It includes more stewards, additional ticket checks, improved fencing, new security lanes and increased enforcement of the Public Spac
e Protection Order which exists around the stadium on event days.

‘All of the changes will be in operation again on Saturday, as the stadium prepares to welcome a sell-out crowd for the final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.’

More than 2,000 police officers were on duty on Saturday, policing protests as well as the Champions League final and related fan events, the Met said.
