Tourism: Several Measures Put in Place to Protect Jobs & Support Businesses (Minister)

Rabat – The Economic Monitoring Committee has put in place several measures to protect as many jobs as possible in tourism and support enterprises working in the sector, said Monday Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui.

“Tourism is one of the most affected economic sectors by the health crisis linked to the new coronavirus, particularly with the suspension of international flights, the minister told reporters following a meeting held by the Committee in Rabat.

The committee, she said, held its first meeting to discuss measures which would support national economy in the face of the negative repercussions of the health crisis and to implement the high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI.

She explained in this regard that the “Special Fund for the Coronavirus pandemic Management (Covid-19)” which has a budget of 10 billion DH, is intended to protect the health of people and support national economy.

The Economic Monitoring Committee, whose action is coordinated by the minister of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform, includes among its members the ministry of Interior, the ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad and the ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests.

It also includes the ministry of Health, the ministry of Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy, the ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy, the ministry of Labor and Professional Integration, Morocco’s central bank (Bank Al-Maghrib), the Professional Grouping of Banks in Morocco, the General Confederation of Enterprises in Morocco, the Federation of Moroccan Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services and the Federation of Chambers of handicraft.

The various members of the committee are expected to set up sectoral monitoring mechanisms within their respective areas of competence and involve, in this endeavour, the relevant actors.

The decree on the creation of the trust fund entitled “Special fund for management of Coronavirus pandemic Covid-19” was signed, on Monday in Rabat, pursuant to the Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, to ensure the financing of measures to prevent and combat the Coronavirus and its impact.
