SOUTH AFRICA TO HOLD 2019 GENERAL ELECTION BEFORE MAY

NEW YORK CITY– President Cyril Ramaphosa has revealed that South Africa will hold its 2019 general election before May.

The president, who is in New York City to attend the 73rd United Nations General Assembly session this week, disclosed this when addressing the Council on Foreign Relations, an American public policy think tank here Monday.

The meeting was attended by academics and people with international business interests among others.

Asked about the level of support for hisruling African National Congress (ANC) party ahead of the polls, Ramaphosa maintained that unity was being prevailed within the party following the party’s hotly contested elective conference in December last year which saw him being elected president of the party and consequently of the country as well.

He said the ANC was renewing itself in the way that it functions and its appeal to the people and attracting those who were disillusioned to return to the fold.

He also said that a number of other organizations which the ANC used to work with were coming back to work with the party.

The ANC is once again finding traction and I’m confident that it should win the next elections which will be held before May 2019, he said.
