Pocket-friendly, Affordable Housing for African Families, a Necessity – Housing Minister
Rabat – Minister of National Territorial Planning, Housing and City Policy, Nouzha Bouchareb, stressed, Thursday, the need to provide decent, affordable and pocket-friendly housing for families in Africa.
It is important to provide affordable housing which takes into account the income of families in Africa and provides them with the necessary financing conditions such as bank loans with acceptable interest rates, state guarantees and tax incentives, she told the press on the occasion of the 39th Annual General Assembly of Shelter Afrique, which convened in Kenya.
“Today in Africa, we notice that the income of the majority is limited and mortgages do not exist, which hinders families from having decent and affordable housing,” said the minister, who chairs the 39th AGA of Shelter Afrique, the only pan-African finance institution that exclusively supports the development of the housing and real estate sector in Africa.
According to Mrs Bouchareb, the coronavirus-related health crisis has increased the vulnerability of millions of Africans who need decent housing.
Shelter Afrique should address several challenges and reorganize priorities to ensure affordable housing for all, she added, while highlighting Morocco’s deep roots as well as its “African dimension.”
Shelter Afrique is a partnership of 44 African Governments, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Africa Reinsurance Company.
The Nairobi-based organization builds strategic partnerships and offers a host of products and related services to support the efficient delivery of affordable housing and commercial real estate.
