Nazinon: The High Commissioner of the Zoundweogo province, Julien Ouedraogo, initiated the work of validating the results of the regional consultations in Manga, aiming to contribute to the general states of land transport in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the exchange meeting saw the participation of multiple local stakeholders, including agents of decentralized structures, representatives from control and security forces, local authorities, hauliers and truck drivers, socio-professional organizations, driving school promoters, and license plate dealers.
In his opening speech, High Commissioner Julien Ouedraogo, representing the Governor of Nazinon, highlighted the central role of the transport subsector in the nation’s economic and social development. He noted that it ensures the mobility of people and goods and serves as a crucial lever for national cohesion, opening up territories, and enhancing trade dynamics. Despite its significance, the sector faces numerous challenges impeding its growth.
Nazinon Regional Mobility Director Issaka Yankene stated that participatory consultations conducted in August across the region’s three provinces revealed several issues, such as a lack of professionalism in certain areas, the poor condition of the vehicle fleet, inadequate infrastructure, road safety concerns, and non-compliance with regulations.
The High Commissioner remarked that these regional consultations, led by the government, were a chance to engage in comprehensive and inclusive discussions on the sector’s issues. The exploration of themes like urban transport, road safety, the driving education and testing system, the motor vehicle registration system, technological innovations, and river transport helped in better understanding the situation and formulating valuable recommendations for the general assembly.
Mr. Ouedraogo expressed that the workshop is a critical step in this process and serves as a framework for consolidating the results of the regional consultations. The regional director of mobility of Nazinon emphasized that the general assembly should eventually enable the transport sub-sector to overcome its current challenges and become more modern and professional, benefiting the Burkinabe people and the national economy.
