Morocco Is Willing to Contribute to Success of ‘ZODIAC’ Initiative in Perspective Resolutely Oriented Towards Africa (Ambassador)

Vienna – Morocco remains willing to contribute to the success of the ”ZODIAC” initiative (Zoonotic Disease Integrated Action) within the framework of its partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in a perspective resolutely oriented towards Africa, said Monday Morocco’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, ambassador Azzeddine Farhane.

Farhane, who was speaking at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting that runs until September 18, stressed that Morocco remains willing to contribute to the success of the important ZODIAC initiative within the framework of its partnership with the IAEA, in a perspective resolutely oriented towards Africa and at the service of the African continent, which remains a strategic priority of Morocco’s action within the IAEA.

The diplomat added that Morocco remains convinced that the commitment of the Agency, under the leadership of Director General Rafael Grossi, who has provided support to 125 member States, including 45 of the African countries, to combat the outbreak of Covid-19, will contribute to the optimal implementation of the ZODIAC initiative and allow the IAEA to develop sustainable rules in the management of zoonotic diseases and establish a sustainable health assistance system, said a statement by the embassy of Morocco in Vienna.

In this regard, and at the level of the African continent, the diplomat took this opportunity to stress the importance of capacity building of experts from African countries in this field by the IAEA, through the organization of training courses and specific workshops.

Morocco also highlighted the need to facilitate the access of African States to nuclear and nuclear-derived techniques in a wide range of areas as well as appropriate technologies to combat zoonoses, added the ambassador.
