Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union (EU) held, on November 9 and 10 in Rabat, the fourth Joint Commission provided for by the Cooperation Agreement on sustainable fisheries.
The two delegations were chaired respectively by the Secretary General of the Department of Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich, and the acting director in charge of International Governance of Oceans and Sustainable Fisheries, Céline Idil.
The two officials welcomed the rigorous management of the Partnership Agreement and the joint commitment to find solutions to the unforeseen constraints in this management that have been imposed by the various current international crises, says a joint statement from both parties.
Despite this difficult context, the closure of the third year of implementation of the agreement took place in a climate of mutual trust, with the shared objective of placing the sustainability of fisheries resources at the heart of the partnership, said the same source.
Both parties have welcomed the exceptional quality of the implementation of projects funded by the support of the European Union, the statement further noted, stressing that these projects contribute to the development of the national strategy for the development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
This includes strengthening fisheries research, support for the development of artisanal fisheries, support for the development of aquaculture and improving the conditions of landing, control in port and recovery.
These projects contribute to job creation, training and the integration of women and young people into working life. This partnership thus contributes to making fishing and aquaculture a major factor of sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The scientists have presented the results of their joint work, in order to allow both parties to ensure a regular monitoring of the evolution of the state of the resources and to guide the setting of the conditions for the exercise of fishing activities for the year 2023.
The parties have also examined and validated the report on the geographical and social distribution of the access tranches and the royalties for the same year.
