“Faced with Algeria’s sterile policy towards this regional conflict, Morocco has managed to promote and prosper the Sahara region,” noted the Iraqi journalist in an article published Friday by the London-based newspaper “Al-Arab”.

Bearing the title “Algeria and Sahara: Political Sterility Stems from Mind Sterility”, Al-Sarraf’s article noted that a country that “fails to meet its own issues and its most pressing challenges can in no way meet those of others.”

“A generation of political sterility in Algeria has remained fixed on a sterile choice that is explained sometimes for expansionist considerations […], sometimes for internal reasons in order to highlight imaginary conflicts, and sometimes for personal purposes,” he notes.

In addition, the Iraqi journalist recalled Spain’s new position on the Moroccan Sahara, highlighting the recent statement of the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.

In this statement, the Spanish Foreign Minister had affirmed that the position taken by the Spanish government is “a sovereign decision that falls within the framework of international legality.”

The artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara is one of the last “sterile” that still persists since Morocco recovered its sovereignty over its lands, immediately after the end of colonialism, notes the writer.

In this regard, he recalled that Algeria has turned this artificial conflict into an obstacle for its own interests but also for the fate of the sequestered in the camps of Tindouf who are denied the right to return to their homeland.

Algeria’s sterile leaders are prolonging this artificial dispute in order not to get out of the cycle of internal institutional failures that jeopardize the interests of the Algerian people, notes the author of the article who deplored the “immoral sterility” of Algeria’s position.
