Speaking at a conference co-organized by the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) and the Italian Institute of International Affairs (IAI) under the theme “Connectivity, value chains and green transition: promoting multilateralism and sustainable growth in the shared Mediterranean space,” Barucco stressed the importance of collaboration between the countries of the Mediterranean basin, including Morocco, especially in terms of investment.
In this regard, he noted the important role of the Kingdom, welcoming the dynamics that it witnesses, especially in the automotive sector in Tangier where several European companies are now located.
Referring to the crises related to climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the Italian ambassador also noted that to build a stable Mediterranean space, foreign policies both in Europe and elsewhere should take into account the reconfiguration of supply chains and focus their actions on a solid Mediterranean cooperation.
For his part, director of the Italian Foreign Policy Program at the IAI, Andrea Dessi, emphasized the central role of multilateral dialogue in the development of foreign policies for a stable and prosperous Mediterranean.
These foreign policies, developed within the framework of a multilateral dialogue platform, are able to address the multiple challenges facing the world today, said Dessi, noting the strong potential of Morocco in this context.
He also stressed the importance of exchanging and deepening discussions on issues related to climate change, green development, security and migration.
Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Morocco, Patricia Pilar Llombart Cussac, said that in a world that is experiencing an extremely complex crisis situation, the development of policy measures to meet the challenges becomes increasingly difficult.
Therefore, it is necessary to reflect on issues of common interest between Morocco and the EU, but also in the shared Mediterranean area, in order to better understand and adapt to today’s realities, said Cussac.
