Burkina: Terrorist groups recorded ‘enormous human and material damage’ during the weekend (minister)


Ouagadougou: The armed terrorist groups who orchestrated simultaneous attacks this weekend suffered ‘enormous human and material damage,’ assured Monday the Minister Delegate for Security, Mahamadou Sana, calling on the populations for serenity and the need to continue collaboration with the Fighting Forces.

‘We recorded several coordinated and simultaneous attacks on national territory (this weekend). Thanks to the professionalism and bravery of our forces, we were able to fight back. And, with the intervention of air vectors, the enemy recorded enormous damage, both human and material,’ said the Minister Delegate in charge of Security, Mahamadou Sana, on national television on Monday evening.

According to the Minister and Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana, from now on the response will be strong ‘to any attempted attack’.

He called on the populations ‘for serenity and for strengthening collaboration with the FDS’ and reassured them that all the positions of the Fighting Forces ‘are still held
and that measures are being taken to further strengthen them’.

According to a press release from the diocese of Dori, of which the AIB received a copy, the Catholic community of Essakane-Village ‘was the victim (Sunday) of a terrorist attack’ of which ‘the provisional toll is 15 faithful killed and two injured’.

The same Sunday, there also took place ‘an attack on a mosque in Natiaboani, in the Eastern region’ which caused, according to a provisional report, ‘the death of 14 faithful including the grand imam of the locality’, we learned. AIB, in a press release from the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB).

For Minister Sana, these attacks are ‘cowardly actions (of the enemy) to be able to say that he is still present’. ‘We believe that these cowardly attacks are a strong demonstration of the weakening of the enemy,’ he stressed.

Indeed, in the opinion of the Minister Delegate, ‘since 2023, several offensives have been carried out, bases have been destroyed as well as training camps’.

o, he continued, ‘actions were carried out in terms of drying up enemy funding as well as controlling the supply corridor. All these actions made it possible to further weaken the enemy.’

‘We are in a dynamic of reconquest and inflicting maximum damage on the enemy. So he takes actions to be able to discourage us. But this is without taking into account the resilience and determination of the Burkinabè people,’ reassured the minister.

Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana Cela also launched ‘a message to the enemy so that he understands that from now on, the Burkinabè people are standing and will fight to defend their homeland’.
