Burkina: More than 100 women made aware of breast and cervical cancer

The Hauts-Bassins Women and Solidarity Collective (CFS) organized an awareness campaign on Saturday May 20 during which more than 100 women in the province of Tuy were sensitized and screened for breast and cervical cancer free of charge.

“The objective of this campaign is to get women to self-maintain to avoid female cancers in order to reduce the death rate due to these pathologies in the Tuy or even the Hauts-Bassins”, declared one members of the CFS, Cécile Bognini.

The awareness campaign was organized with the collaboration of the health district of Houndé and mainly targeted women aged 25 to 55.

For her part, the health attaché in obstetric and gynecological care of the health district of Houndé, Bibata Cissoko, explained that gynecological cancers are pathologies due to a germ called the papillomavirus.

She indicated that these pathologies are favored by sexually transmitted infections (STIs), multiple sexual partners, early or unprotected sexual activity and the consumption of narcotics.

Mariam Sankara, one of the beneficiaries of this campaign was delighted to have been screened without paying a penny and thanked the initiators of the campaign.
