ANGOLAN FM TO ATTEND MEETING ON SECURITY IN AFRICA’S GREAT LAKES REGION

LUANDA, Angolan Foreign Minister Georges Chikoti and his counterparts from regional countries will meet in Cairo Monday to discuss issues related to peace and security in Africa’s Great Lakes Region, the Foreign Ministry says.

The Ministry said in a statement Thursday that Chikoti and his accopanying delegation left Luanda Thursday for Dar-es-Salam, where he is scheduled to attend a meeting to discuss the political, defence and security situation in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) sub-region and the latest developments in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The African Foreign Ministers will also analyse the election of the next African Union (AU) president and review a proposal by some member States for the Southern Africa Liberation Day.

The diplomats will also examine the SADC Secretariat’s report on Burundi and the Comoros joining the grouping.

The agenda for the Dar-es-Salam meeting also includes the preparation of recommendations for the SADC Troika Extraordinary Summit set for March this year in the Tanzanian capital.
