EB5 Capital Receives I-956F Approvals for San Luis Obispo Marriott Hotels (JF31) and SouthFace Village at Okemo (JF36) Projects

WASHINGTON, May 30, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — EB5 Capital is pleased to report that its San Luis Obispo Marriott Hotels (JF31) project and SouthFace Village at Okemo (JF36) project were both approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in May 2024. Since the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022 (RIA) was enacted, EB5 Capital has obtained Form I-956F project approvals across a total of nine EB-5 projects.

These Form I-956F approvals signify that USCIS, the government agency that oversees the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, has assessed, and verified the compliance of the EB-5 project. An I-956F project approval is also required prior to USCIS adjudicating individual I-526E petition approvals, the application for a foreign investor to secure conditional permanent residency in the United States.

“We are happy to see more of these project approvals come through, especially on our first rural deal in this post-RIA landscape,” said Brian Ostar, President of EB5 Capital. “SouthFace Village at Okemo is an exciting project, and we are confident its development is going to further enhance the local Okemo Mountain community and its year-round activities in central Vermont.”

SouthFace Village at Okemo (JF36) is a for-sale luxury ski-in and ski-out residential development on the southeast face of Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, Vermont. As a rural Targeted Employment Area (TEA), this project qualifies for priority processing with USCIS. The recent Form I-956F project approval was granted within six months after the application was filed.

San Luis Obispo Marriott Hotels (JF31), the other EB5 Capital project recently approved by USCIS, is a four-story Marriott dual-branded Residence Inn and SpringHill Suites hotel in San Luis Obispo, California. The project is designated as a high unemployment TEA and was one of EB5 Capital’s first EB-5 raises under the new EB-5 legislation. Both JF36 and JF31 are currently under construction and are expected to generate over 1,300 jobs in total.

Now that both projects are approved with USCIS, EB5 Capital is looking forward to receiving individual I-526E petition approvals soon. The firm will continue to track the remainder of the construction process and support its investors with the completion of their immigration journey to the United States.

Higher Education Minister receives 2024 World No Tobacco Day award

Tunis: Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Moncef Boukthir received the 2024 World No Tobacco Day award, during a ceremony held on Friday at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of officials from the WHO office in Tunis.

Boukhthir indicated on the occasion, that this distinction rewards the efforts exerted by his department in combating smoking, following the publication by the Ministry in August 2023 of a circular banning smoking in all establishments under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

He pointed out the difficulties involved in achieving immediate and tangible results in combating smoking, one of the main causes of death in Tunisia, adding that the ministry’s services are monitoring all the data with a view to applying this circular across all its establishments.

‘The ban on smoking is mainly aimed at protecting everyone’s health,’ he asserted.

‘The fact that some employees temporarily leave their posts to smoke in outdoor areas does not pose a problem,
but the ministry is working hard to convince its staff to stop smoking for good,’ he said.

The preliminary results of the circular’s application have been ‘encouraging,’ Boukthir said, adding that the initiative would be extended to all areas under the ministry’s jurisdiction.

Former US Navy commander in Europe and Africa arrested for corruption

Retired Admiral Robert Burke, former commander of US naval forces in Europe and Africa and former head of NATO’s Allied Joint Forces Command in Naples, has been arrested on suspicion of corruption. This is indicated in a press release published on the website of the American Department of Justice, which performs the functions of the general prosecutor’s office.

The retired admiral and two businessmen “were arrested today to face criminal charges related to their role in a bribery scheme involving a government contract.”

If convicted, Burke faces up to 30 years in prison, while his two alleged accomplices face up to 20 years in prison. All three are accused of corruption and criminal conspiracy. Burke is also accused of acting in his personal financial interest and concealing material facts from U.S. authorities.

The US Department of Justice said the two New York businessmen headed a company that provided “a pilot workforce training program” for the US naval forces between August 2018 and July 2019 and who
se contract was terminated at the end of 2019.

Despite being ordered not to contact Burke, the two men reportedly attempted to “restore [their] company’s business relationship with the Navy” in July 2021. During a meeting with Burke, they reportedly agreed that the latter would ‘use his position as admiral’ to have the company provide services to the navy in exchange for future employment with that company.

In December 2021, Burke allegedly ordered his subordinates to pay the company $355,000 as part of a contract to train staff in Italy and Spain. Subsequently, he also allegedly tried unsuccessfully to entrust the company with the provision of services under a contract with the United States Navy. In October 2022, Burke began working for the said company, his annual salary amounting to $500,000.
